Position Summary | The Team Lead-Sterile Processing oversees and performs a variety of sterile processing functions. Works under the direction of the department manager/supervisor and is responsible for daily operations and workflow on their shift. Serves as a resource for all aspects of sterilization processing of surgical instrumentation. Ability to perform essential functions of a sterile processing technician. | | | |
Education | High School Diploma or GED is required. | Associates degree in healthcare or related field is preferred. |
Experience | 2 years of sterile processing experience is required. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Central Supply Processing Department Technician (CSPDT) is required. |

Responsibilities | Coordinates the decontamination, sterilization, inspection and assembly of instruments, materials, and equipment necessary for support of the surgical services and other departments. | Assists other team members and functions as a preceptor for staff as needed. Assists with orientation, training, and competency assessment of colleagues. | Applies accepted protocols for all phases of the sterilization process. | Facilitates the day to day activities of sterile processing to include ancillary departments and inpatient floors. | Maintains inventory and instrumentation. Responsible for placing department supply orders. | Correlates central sterile processes appropriately with surgical procedures. | Troubleshoots minor problems with equipment and sterilizers. Monitors processing equipment to assure peak performance and minimize downtime. | Works with vendors related to orders, equipment and/or department needs. Documents such transactions if necessary. | Identifies and reports unsafe practices and adheres to/enforces all safety regulations and attends required safety training. | Performs quality assurance checks as directed or needed. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials. Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues. | Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work. Actively involves the patient and family in decisions about care. Promotes quality care by participating in organizational councils/committees and/or support of related process. Documents services provided to patients in the electronic medical record in accordance with policy and requirements. |
