Position Summary | The Endoscopy Technician I will prepare and maintain medical endoscopic instruments, equipment, and sterile set-up according to manufacturer recommendations and facility standards. The position provides overall safety checks to verify proper equipment functioning, room preparations, positions or transports patients, assistant physicians and nurses, and conducts in-service training sessions to disseminate information regarding equipment or instruments. | | | |
Education | High School Diploma or GED is required. |
Experience | 1 year healthcare experience is preferred. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. | Nursing Assistant certification, Certified Medical Assistant, or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is preferred. |

Responsibilities | Provides direct support to physicians and nurses during procedures, anticipates needs of physician in preparing and passing supplies and procedure equipment, and ensures patient comfort and safety. | Performs all sterilization procedures including the cleaning, packaging, and sterilization of equipment and supplies, as well as chemical and biological monitoring. | Utilizes knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and operative technique related to the specific endoscopic and pulmonary procedure. | Prepares and cleans the procedural room, prepares the sterile set-up. | Assists in carrying out aseptic techniques and procedures as outlined in the policy and procedures manual. | Assists in preparation and positioning of patient according to need. | Prepares specimen as directed by the physician. Handles specimens; demonstrates care of specimens, according to procedure. | Responsible for assembling and checking all equipment prior to use for proper function. | Maintain inventory control through volume reduction, monitoring levels, rotating stock, and monitoring outdates. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials. Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues. | Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work. Actively involves the patient and family in decisions about care. Promotes quality care by participating in organizational councils/committees and/or support of related process.
