Position Summary | Assists in oversight and leadership within assigned area of responsibility. Duties may include: assists in the management of the overall operational, budgetary, and financial responsibilities and activities; plans and allocates resources to effectively staff and accomplish the work to meet productivity and quality goals; makes business decisions that are financially responsible, accountable, justifiable, and defensible in accordance with organization policies and procedures; reviews performance data that includes quality, satisfaction, engagement, and financial reports; monitors and measures productivity, goal achievement, and overall effectiveness; participates in the preparation and maintenance of reports necessary to carry out the functions of the area of responsibility; prepares periodic reports for management, as necessary or requested, to track goal accomplishment; leads colleagues using performance management and development process that provides an overall context and framework to encourage colleague contribution. Primary duty includes the performance of work requiring advanced knowledge, in a field of science or learning, and which requires the consistent exercise of discretion and judgment and/or includes managing department and regularly directing the work of at least two or more employees. Supervisory authority includes authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, discipline, responsibly direct or adjust grievances. May evaluate performance and professional development of staff. | | | |
Education | Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required. | May consider a candidate who is currently enrolled and a bachelor’s of nursing (BSN) is obtained within 2 years of hire. |
Experience | 3 years staff nurse (RN) is required. | Demonstrated progressive responsibility is preferred. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Licensed in state of practice (RN) is required. | Wisconsin: RNs may practice with a valid multi-state RN license as outlined in the Nurse Licensure Compact rules. | Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Demonstrated knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, fiscal planning, budgeting, and reporting. | Ability to maintain leadership effectiveness while focusing on maximizing operational goals and strategic success. | Able to effectively execute organizational strategies, measure progress and commit to continually seeking opportunities for process improvement. | Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities. | Demonstrates excellent judgement and decision-making skills. | Strong interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively motivate staff, maintain customer relations with patients as well as key stakeholders (i.e., clinical departments, providers, vendors). |
Responsibilities | Provides direct supervision of daily operations on the unit. | Coordinates interdepartmental activities within area of responsibility providing expertise and resources to ensure quality patient care. | Serves as front-line resource for physicians relating to patient care in the area of specialty | Works collaboratively with leadership to market and promote the unit and its services. | Works collaboratively with leadership to develop and implement a performance improvement program and address problems and/or complaints. | Recommends and develops policies and procedures for operations to enhance quality patient care and service. | Collaborates with others in providing excellence in patient care. | Provides hands-on care as unit needs dictate. | Participates in training and educational activities for personal development. | Create action/business plan to achieve goals. | Addresses customer needs and responds to customer concerns, identifying ways to improve customer relations. | Holds meetings as appropriate to share information. | Communicates policies and procedures as appropriate. | Maintains consistent effective communication through daily interaction/observation of work performance. |
