Position Summary

Operates and evaluates all power plant equipment for efficiency and safety. Adjusts gauges and dials, reads temperatures, and records output. Performs maintenance as needed.

High School Diploma, GED or related vocational training is required

Good understanding of working with boilers is preferred.

Good mechanical background with understanding of air-conditioning is preferred.

Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, and lift. Must be able to tolerate variable amounts of standing, walking and/or sedentary activity. Must possess manual dexterity to handle and manipulate equipment and appliances. Must rotate different hours, shifts, and/or assigned areas, as well as be called in during emergencies to provide adequate coverage.

Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information.

Possesses strong technical aptitude and product knowledge.

Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty.

Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.

Ability to drive multiple projects to successful completion.

Operates natural gas engine-driven and electric-driven chillers to provide sufficient chilled water for cooling.  Operates high-pressure steam boilers to supply sufficient steam pressure.  Regenerates softeners to maintain adequate supply of soft water.

Tests emergency generators to maintain a state of readiness.  Tests and treats boiler and cooling water according to specifications.

Operates and monitors pumps and air handlers.   Checks air compressors for proper pressures and air dryers for proper operation.

Makes periodic rounds checking gauges and equipment, recording readings in logs.

Checks fire pump and test runs monthly.

May be required to do some mechanical repairs.

Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed.  Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate.

Abides by all safety requirements including demonstrating proper hand hygiene and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. 

Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality.  Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with team members.
