Position Summary | Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) or provider, performs direct patient care procedures and assists with care in more complex situations to all patients, neonate through geriatric. | | | |
Education | Associates degree in emergency medical services or completion of state approved paramedic training program is required. |
Experience | Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) experience is required. 3 years of EMS experience is preferred. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Licensed Paramedic in the state of practice is required. | Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. | Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required. | Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required. | Critical Care Transport (CCT) is preferred. |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information. | Demonstrates a high level of accuracy and composure under pressure. | Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment. | Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision-making skills. | Friendly and service oriented. |
Responsibilities | Triages patients according to unit protocol and individual patient needs. Continues care and documentation from triage assessment including 30-minute updates and repeat of abnormal vital signs. Documents pain level using age appropriate scale upon arrival, at discharge and as necessary for care of the patient. Provides the highest level of patient safety be ensuring proper patient identification is maintained at all times. | Completes electronic record with accurate classification of patient acuities and charges. | Obtains and sets up appropriate equipment and supplies for anticipated diagnostic and therapeutic intervention, monitoring and examination. | Provides patient and family appropriate unit specific safety and security policies. | Responsible for administering intravenous therapy, intramuscular, and subcutaneous injections as age appropriate. | Performs a spiritual and nutritional assessment as appropriate. | Responsible for ensuring proper airway management across all age groups. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials. Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues. | Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work. Actively involves the patient and family in decisions about care. Promotes quality care by participating in organizational councils/committees and/or support of related process. Documents services provided to patients in the electronic medical record in accordance with policy and requirements. |
