Position Summary | Assess, treats, educates, and evaluates patients and care plans, implements, and documents patient care related to cardiopulmonary and vascular rehabilitation in accordance with all established standards. Provides expertise in the areas of exercise and strengthening. Monitors patient safety and physiologic response to exercise in all phases of cardiac, vascular and pulmonary rehabilitation. Proficient in dysrhythmia recognition and key interpretation. | | | |
Education | Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Health Education, Physical Education or Exercise Physiology with a Cardiac Rehab emphasis is required. | Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Health Education, Physical Education or Exercise physiology with a Cardiac Rehab emphasis preferred. |
Experience | 1 year of Exercise Physiology or Cardiac Rehab is preferred. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. | Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is obtained within 6 months of hire is required. |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Strong verbal communication and listening skills. | Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills. | Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities. | Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision-making skills. |
Responsibilities | Educates patients and families about the patient’ condition, role and program goals and documents level of understanding. | Provides clear and concise documentation including initial evaluation, progress notes, and discharge summary in a timely manner for all patients. | Completes patient exercise prescriptions per department policy. | Recognizes emergency situations, including arrhythmias, and treats according to ACLS guidelines. | Recognizes contraindications for treatment and contact physician immediately. | Recognizes when environmental conditions exceed parameters and modifies treatment. | Maintains a safe environment for patients and others, including use of universal precautions when implementing care. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials. Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues. | Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work. Actively involves the patient and family in decisions about care. Promotes quality care by participating in organizational councils/committees and/or support of related process. Documents services provided to patients in the electronic medical record in accordance with policy and requirements. |
