Position Summary

The Educator-Nursing position provides in-depth knowledge and demonstration of technical skills pertinent to nursing and the specialty area of practice. The position is used to promote education and development of the direct care providers to enhance the quality of care to patients.


Education

Bachelor’s degree in nursing is required.

Graduate from an accredited and approved school of nursing accepted for licensure in the state of practice plus 3 years clinical experience may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree. 

Master’s degree in nursing or related field is preferred.


Experience

Four years of staff nurse or healthcare experience is required.


Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice is required. 

Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is preferred.

Specialty certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

Participates in the orientation of new colleagues or students in the clinical setting.

Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates staff development/continuing education activities in collaboration with directors, education, and medical staff.

Direct and/or assist nursing staff in implementing the nursing process to develop individual patient care plans based on standards of clinical practice and Nursing Diagnosis.

Promotes nursing practice based on research findings and evaluates its effectiveness on patient care.

Evaluates patient care/outcomes based on established standards of clinical practice.

Identifies new information and trends in area of specialization and integrates this information into formal and informal educational programs to maintain standards of clinical practice.

Acts as a resource to nursing leadership for policy decisions which have actual or potential impact on the quality of nursing care and support management personnel in their decision-making role.

Acts as a positive professional role model and demonstrates adaptability to changing nursing trends.


Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed.  Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate.

Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable.  Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials.  Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals.

Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality.  Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline.  Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues.

Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work.  Actively involves the patient and family in decisions about care.  Promotes quality care by participating in organizational councils/committees and/or support of related process.  Documents services provided to patients in the electronic medical record in accordance with policy and requirements.
