Position Summary

The Team Lead-Cath Lab/EP assists in oversight and coordination of daily operations of the cath lab and/or electrophysiology (EP) lab. Serves as the expert resource and lead person within cath lab/EP area. Works closely with leadership and physicians to plan, implement, and facilitate the work activity of the area to accomplish goals and objectives. Conducts quality assurance, colleague scheduling, and assists with department policies and procedures to ensure efficient lab operation.


Education

Associate's degree in nursing, radiologic technology, allied health, applied science or completion of certificate/training program is required.

Bachelor’s degree in nursing, radiologic technology, allied health or applied science is preferred. 


Experience

4 years of recent experience in a cardiac cath lab and/or electrophysiology lab is required.


Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

Licensed as Registered Nurse (RN) or Radiographer in state of practice is required.  If Radiographer, certification as a Registered Radiologic Technologist (RT(R)) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.

Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI) certification from ARRT OR certification as a Registered Cardiovascular

Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) from Cardiovascular

Credentialing International (CCI) is preferred.

Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required.

Responsibilities

Participates/assists in cath lab/EP procedures (monitor, scrub and x-ray roles) regularly and/or when needed. Responsible for relieving team members from cases when appropriate.

Coordinates the safe and efficient delivery of patient care in accordance with industry and hospital standards. Partners with leadership, physicians, and staff to facilitate best practices and outcomes in cath lab/EP lab.

Assists with staffing plan and scheduling for cath lab/EP lab, ensuring efficient utilization of staff and labs throughout the day. Works with Cath Lab board and staff to cross-train and assign staff where needed. Monitors cath lab/EP schedule to ensure appropriate vendors and/or anesthesia are scheduled as ordered.

Plans and supports educational/training needs of the lab to ensure colleague competency; to include but not limited to educational in-services/activities for cath lab/EP staff, development of new training materials, and orientating/training new colleagues.

Ensures prompt start times of procedures by checking on patients before procedures in pre-cath area or hospital floor areas, working with anesthesia staff prior and during procedures, and assisting where needed. Applies problem-solving skills to resolve patient/family complaints and patient care problems and promotes customer satisfaction.

Ensures all supplies and equipment are available for procedures. Assists with any troubleshooting of lab equipment and communicates what new equipment and supplies are needed with leadership and physicians.

Provides ongoing communication to and works collaboratively with leadership, physicians and staff regarding patient care, staffing, education, equipment and/or any issues that need addressed.

Assists leadership with ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies and/or accrediting bodies standards, including maintaining records and policies/procedures. Anticipates and remains abreast of regulatory or other changes affecting operations.

Maintains current clinical knowledge of specialty area. Performs any self-study and/or review needed to deliver knowledge of all cath lab/EP lab content necessary to provide the best supportive role for the lab.


Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed.  Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate.

Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable.  Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials.  Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals.

Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality.  Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline.  Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues.

Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work.  Actively involves the patient and family in decisions about care.  Promotes quality care by participating in organizational councils/committees and/or support of related process.  Documents services provided to patients in the electronic medical record in accordance with policy and requirements.
