Position Summary | The House Supervisor is a Registered Nurse responsible for overseeing hospital operations and nursing care during assigned shifts, including staffing coordination, patient flow, and bed placement. They serve as a resource and leader for nursing staff and other departments, providing guidance, education, and support to ensure quality patient care. Additionally, they manage hospital-wide situations, assist with data monitoring, and assume administrative responsibilities in the absence of leadership. | | | |
Education | Graduate from an accredited and approved school of nursing accepted for licensure in the state of practice is required. | Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is preferred. |
Experience | 1 year Nursing experience is required. | Leadership experience is preferred. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in state of practice is required. Wisconsin: RNs may practice with a valid multi-state RN license as outlined in the Nurse Licensure Compact rules. | Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. | Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required as per local affiliate guidelines. |

Responsibilities | Facilitates the prompt and appropriate placement of patients. Assists with reallocation of people to match resources to care requirements. | Coordinates interdepartmental activities within area of responsibility providing expertise and resources to ensure quality patient care. | Collaborates with managers, staff, providersand market supervison peers to resolve patient care issues. | May be assigned direct responsibility for managing a group of patients, providing clinical care and support as needed. Performs or assists with bedside procedures including IV insertions, urinary catheterizations (foley or straight cath), and nasogastric (NG) tube placements. Assists with room turnover and cleaning tasks when Environmental Services is unavailable after hours to ensure timely patient placement and maintain care standards. | Ensures availability of necessary supplies and equipment after hours by retrieving items from the Storeroom and coordinating with SPD to obtain or order equipment such as IV pumps, tube feeding pumps, and wound vacs as needed. Retrieves dietary supplies including tube feedings, baby formula, and patient food outside of regular hours. Facilitates and documents equipment loans or transfers to support patient care and operational continuity. | Assists in teaching, directing and supervising personnel in the delivery of patient care. | Serves a critical role as outlined in the Emergency Management Plan, acting as Incident Commander during declared emergencies or disasters until formally relieved by the Administrator on Call (AOC) or designated Incident Commander. Takes immediate and decisive action in urgent and emergent situations to ensure safety and continuity of care, promptly communicating interventions and situational updates to leadership. Responds rapidly to all overhead alerts, including cardiac arrests, rapid responses, and traumas, providing clinical and operational support as needed. | Provides leadership support by addressing and, when necessary, correcting or disciplining staff behavior in the absence of the immediate manager, ensuring timely follow-up and written documentation to the appropriate leader(s). Documents significant activities and relevant information to support leadership investigations and follow-up. Reports unusual or critical circumstances to leadership in a timely manner. Serves as a point of contact for non-nursing crises in the absence of the designated manager, ensuring continuity of operations and support. | Provides back up to colleague Health Services on evenings/nights/weekends to deal with blood exposures and to deal with injuries. |
