Position Summary | Under the direction of the radiologist, provides CT and MRI services to patient for diagnosis. Closely follows physician's instructions, appropriately positions patients, prepares and operates equipment, and accurately records the images requested. | | | |
Education | Associates degree in allied health, applied/radiologic science or certificate program is required. |
Experience | 1 year of radiology experience is preferred. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Licensed Radiographer in the state of practice is required. May accept limited and/or temporary permits/licenses for a period of 12 months. | Certification/registration or registry-eligible as a Radiologic Technologist in Radiography (RT(R)) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required. Certification must be obtained within 12 months. | Basic Life Support (BLS) required |

Responsibilities | Performs diagnostic CT and MRI imaging procedures as per protocols. | Documents patient history and other pertinent information for Radiologist’s interpretation. | Administers proper contrast agents, is aware of type and dosage. | Assesses, evaluates and informs Radiologist of changes in patient’s condition during the exam. | Consults with Radiologist as needed after checking for special instructions from ordering physician. | Identifies patient by use of two unique identifiers. | Obtains informed consent as needed. | Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy through proper positioning and radiographic exposure factor setting. | Practices radiation protection consistent with guidelines. | Understands and accurately uses radiology software systems (PACS, RIS and HIS). | Maintains accurate quality control logs, service records; accurately records number of patients imaged, exams performed, and protocols used. | Reports equipment malfunctions in a timely manner and makes arrangements for repairs, if instructed. | Participates in orientation, preceptorship and mentoring of students, physicians, volunteersand other staff as appropriate. | Ensures staffing and scheduling are completed on a timely basis. | Participates in policy and procedure development and implementation including those of clinical operations, safety, cost containment and service. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials. Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues. | Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work. Actively involves the patient and family in decisions about care. Promotes quality care by participating in organizational councils/committees and/or support of related process. Documents services provided to patients in the electronic medical record in accordance with policy and requirements. |
