Position Summary | The Clinical Informaticist I promotes the knowledge, integration and application of healthcare information technology to make solution recommendations to assist in clinical targets, the organization's vision and strategic goals, and industry best practices. This position drives the optimal, efficient and effective use of clinical information systems and technology as it relates to patient care, patient safety, user satisfaction, clinical productivity and quality outcomes. Provides basic level support to bridge the gap between people, processes, introductory clinical knowledge and technology in the inpatient and/or ambulatory settings. | | | |
Education | Associates degree in nursing, respiratory therapy, cardiopulmonary science, information technology, education, training or related field is required. | Bachelor’s degree in nursing, respiratory therapy, cardiopulmonary science or related field is strongly preferred. | Master’s Degree in Nursing, Informatics, Computer Science or Information Technology is preferred. | High School diploma plus 3 years of experience in medical, allied health, information technology, education, training or related experience is required. |
Experience | 3 years of nursing, medical, allied health, information technology, training, or relevant experience is required. | Experience supporting Epic or other comparable electronic health records (EHR), and other clinical IT applications used by clinicians is preferred. | Experience in project management, workflow design, process improvement, clinical care transformation and end user education/training is preferred. | Informatics or super user experience is preferred. | (Experience is in addition to any experience used in lieu of degree) |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Current valid driver’s license is required. | Current, valid license as a Registered Nurse, Allied Health Professional, or Registered Respiratory therapist in state of practice is strongly preferred. | Certification from American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Informatics, Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CAHIMS), Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) or other related certification is preferred. | Epic certification is preferred. |

Responsibilities | Assists in the support of applications, troubleshoots, resolves issues, and initiates escalation procedures. Communicates application issues. Remains current on application/system updates. | Conducts daily rounding in the acute setting and/or regular rounding in the ambulatory setting on physicians, clinicians, and others during care delivery with the dual intention of optimizing and standardizing their workflow and identifying and developing new workflows that improve the efficiency of the clinical staff, resulting in a proactive and agile approach to issue recognition, timely resolution and knowledge sharing. | Utilizes change management strategy and communicates changes and project status with system leadership, physician leadership, health informatics leadership, operational owners, project managers, process architects, and IT members. | Assists in developing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing health information technology training materials for clinicians and others based on current clinical practice and workflow. Conducts classroom training and orients new and incoming clinicians, physicians and others to a variety of applications. | Collaborates with other teams to assist in design, review, validation, testing, and problem resolution related to the electronic health record and other electronic clinical systems. | Regularly participates in Health IT Governance process and committees and identifies, researches, validates, and logs opportunities for improvement and innovation, and propose/create effective solutions. | Provides education on new applications and/or functionality, assists with executing change management strategy (communication, buy-in, training, technical support) to enable a smooth implementation of new application changes and enhancements. | Provides 24/7 hour on-call support to operations for a variety of clinical applications in a timely and effective manner; researches, communicates, resolves, and escalates as needed. | Assists in preparation and readiness for regulatory surveys, emergency preparedness and organizational certifications/awards as it relates to clinical documentation and the use of electronic clinical systems. | Attends key medical staff, quality, and other meetings as needed. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Abides by all safety requirements including demonstrating proper hand hygiene and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline.
