Position Summary | Assists the physician with the performance of invasive and diagnostic/interventional cardiac, vascular, neuro and electrophysiology procedures, by monitoring, passing instruments and catheters, observing patient response to procedure, maintaining sterile field, and interpreting and evaluating diagnostic data to be utilized by the physician. Position requires the operation of equipment that produces ionizing radiation. | | | |
Education | Associates degree in radiologic technology, allied health, applied science or completion of certificate/training program is required. |
Experience | Experience in radiology/diagnostic imaging is preferred. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Licensed Radiographer in the state of practice is required. | Certification as a Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography (RT(R)) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required. | Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. | Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required or obtained within 6 months of hire. |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues. | Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals. | Possesses a thorough knowledge of sterile techniques, instruments, catheters, cardiac arrhythmias, and hemodynamic waveform analysis. | Maintains composure under pressure. | Possesses strong technical aptitude. |
Responsibilities | Prepares the patient, paints and drapes for the catheterization, device implantation or other procedures and scrubs in passing instruments and catheters during the procedure. | Interprets arrhythmias and various pressure wave forms, calculates and interprets oxygen saturations. | Interprets and evaluates hemodynamic data and reports to the physician. | Controls the angiography system, moves (pans) the procedure table and produces ionizing radiation. | Operates a variety of complex equipment as delineated by achievement of competency. | Utilizes a variety of sophisticated imaging equipment to visualize the heart, coronary vessels, and other peripheral vascular and/or neuro anatomy during catheterization procedures. | Ensures records are maintained on each patient and reported to the nursing unit receiving the patient. | Administers proper contrast agents, is aware of type and dosage. | Responsible for cleaning equipment, assuring maintenance when necessary and testing the equipment prior to actual usage for purposes of quality control. | Performs special skills and procedures requiring knowledge of sterile technique. | Investigates and reports any problem relating to patient, physician and/or colleague concerns. | Orders and maintains supplies. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials. Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues. | Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work. Actively involves the patient and family in decisions about care. Promotes quality care by participating in organizational councils/committees and/or support of related process.
