Position Summary | Perform diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures in a clinical setting. Operates conventional, fluoroscopic or radiology equipment to obtain images of designated body parts according to physician specifications and/or orders. Assists the physician with the performance of various diagnostic and interventional procedures, by monitoring, passing instruments and catheters, observing patient response to procedure, maintaining sterile field, interpreting and evaluating diagnostic data to be utilized by the physician. | | | |
Education | Associates degree in radiologic technology, allied health, applied science or completion of certificate/training program is required. |
Experience | Experience in interventional radiology or special procedures is preferred. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Licensed Radiographer in the state of practice is required. | Certification as a Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography (RT(R)) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required. | Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. |

Responsibilities | Performs basic fluoroscopic procedures, age specific modifications, portable/surgical/c-arm procedures and all diagnostic procedures at a competent level. Demonstrates the ability to evaluate images for quality positioning and/or exposure factors. | Assists physician with performing interventional radiology procedures including but not limited to diagnostic and therapeutic angiography of the head and body, venography, fistula grams, central line placement, biopsies, drainages, and pain injections. | Conduct patient interview to obtain history and to perform physical assessment. Explain test procedures and reason for test to patients and patient's family. Maintains positive communication with patient, respects and assures privacy of the patient, and assures patient’s needs for comfort and safety are met. | Adheres to environmental standards as it applies to the imaging department to include medication and the cleaning (maintenance) of the radiographic rooms. | Participates in the orientation, preceptorship, and mentoring of students, physicians and other staff as appropriate. | Demonstrates PACS and EMR competency at an advanced level, has thorough understanding of all quality control issues and diagnosis of day-to-day quality control problems, and has the ability to amend mislabeled cases and delete bad data from the EMR and/or PACS systems. | Performs special skills and procedures requiring knowledge of sterile technique. | Practices radiation protection consistent with guidelines. | Prepare and administer contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials. Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues. | Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work. Actively involves the patient and family in decisions about care. Promotes quality care by participating in organizational councils/committees and/or support of related process. Documents services provided to patients in the electronic medical record in accordance with policy and requirements. |
