Position Summary | The Risk Management Specialist provides analytical support of a comprehensive risk management program. Works at the direction of the System Risk Manager, and collaborates with the management team to provide a coordinated and integrated process for patient safety, loss prevention, regulatory compliance and for a safe environment. | | | |
Education | Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) is required. | Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. |
Experience | 3 years hospital and/or healthcare experience is preferred. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice is required. |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Possesses working knowledge of electronic medical records with the ability to apply clinical understanding in order to accurately evaluate information. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing. | Provides excellent customer service skills through telephone, personal and/or written communication. | Able to appropriately handle varied levels of work while effectively multi-tasking and prioritizing while demonstrating a strong attention to detail. | Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills. | Demonstrates competence in computer systems and applications required for the role. | Possesses the ability to effectively facilitate work groups. |
Responsibilities | Proactively addresses and/or optimizes computer systems and applications. | Participates in Apparent Cause Analyses and Root Cause Analyses and identifies process improvements/preventative measures to minimize or eliminate potential for loss and liability. | Reviews and trends complaints across HSHS from colleagues, patients, visitors, and medical staff.Following management protocols, intervenes whenever conditions pose an immediate threat to life or health, or threaten damage to equipment or buildings.Serves as a Risk consultant to internal and external customers. | Assists in the management of complaints and grievances, particularly those with a quality of care concern or potential liability issue. | Communicates potential litigious issues to The System Risk Manager who will then notify Local System and Division leaders and consults with Associate General Counsel for appropriate legal advice. | Identifies areas of vulnerability and risk; develops/implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues and provides guidance on how to address similar situations in the future. | Participates in the development and implementation of divisional/institutional policies and directives. Reviews the electronic medical record (EMR) and applies clinical knowledge to ensure appropriate patient care. | Interprets and complies with regulatory standards and professional practice requirements. | Incorporates enterprise risk management strategies into ongoing risk mitigation activities. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Abides by all safety requirements including demonstrating proper hand hygiene and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with team members. |
