Position Summary | The Infection Preventionist I investigates and monitors known or potential sources of suspected infections in order to determine source and ensure controls. Assists in developing policies and procedures for infection control. Provides education and coordination to the overall infection prevention program. | | | |
Education | Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN), Medical Technology or related field is required. | Associates degree in Nursing (ADN) and three years of relevant nursing experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree. |
Experience | Three years of experience in nursing, healthcare, infection prevention, quality or related field is required. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Licensed Registered Nurse (RN), Medical technologist (MT), or other related clinical licensure in the state of practice is preferred. | Certified in Infection Prevention and Control is preferred. |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Strong written and verbal communication skills. | Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision-making skills. | Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. | Detailed oriented and able to handle multiple projects. |
Responsibilities | Collects and analyzes Infection Control data and identifies and implements improvements in preventing and controlling transmission of infectious disease. | Serves as a resource on Infection Control procedures and processes to colleagues, leaders, and medical staff. | Ensures Infection Control processes are based on sound epidemiological principles. | Coordinates the infection surveillance program, infection prevention and control. | Advises and provides consultation to the Colleague Health Nurse on Infection Control issues for medical intervention for colleague illness injury and communicable disease as well as for the health hazard monitoring program according to federal and state regulations. | Formulates and reviews Infection Control policies and procedures. | Advises Risk leadership regarding issues related to Infection Control. | Manages infectious outbreaks. | Develops, formats and processes written communications effectively in accordance with department procedures. | Participates in orientation, preceptorship and mentoring of students, volunteers and other staff as appropriate. | Provides education to staff, physicians, and community. | Ensures the affiliate complies with local, state, and federal Infection Control regulations. | Assists the Chairperson of the Infection Control Panel and assists the panel members in fulfilling their responsibilities. | Serves on committees, teams, and task forces as assigned. | Participates in projects and clinic and community programs as appropriate. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Abides by all safety requirements including demonstrating proper hand hygiene and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with team members. |
