Position Summary

The Vice President-Philanthropy will bring visionary leadership as the chief fundrasising strategist responsible for supporting the Foundation's mission through fundraising growth. This role additionally serves as the President over the Foundation. This position entails strategic leadership, fundraising, operational management, and partnership with market and system executives to align Foundation activities with HSHS strategic goals. As President of the Foundation, the Vice President-Philanthropy also holds the ex-officio role on the Board of Directors and implements the Foundation's long-term strategic plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors. The Vice President leads all fundraising efforts including major giving, annual giving, planned giving, private and government grants, events, and campaigns. 


Education

Master’s degree in business, communications, public relations, philanthropic studies or a related field is required.

Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, public relations, philanthropic studies or a related field plus five years of leadership experience in philanthropy and/or fundraising may be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.


Experience

8 years of philanthropy experience is required.

5 years of leadership experience is required.

Responsibilities

Develops and leads strategic direction for all aspects of philanthropy; ensures Foundation activities advance the Mission and strategic priorities of HSHS system, markets, programs, and facilities.

Elevates the presence, profile, and impact of the Foundation through visible leadership and effective communication and reporting.

Partners with HSHS leadership to identify campaign opportunities years in advance of investments, enabling development of major fundraising strategies that significantly expand the organization’s ability to advance its Mission; Provides strategic leadership for major capital campaigns.

Leads all fundraising efforts, including major, planned, annual, corporate, private grants, and government grants; ensures donor stewardship is occurring in alignment with industry best practices.

Maintains a limited portfolio of donors and fundraises within that portfolio successfully

Advances clear metrics across the Foundation for fundraising with regular communication to operational leaders as to outcomes and performance; identifies and implements new technology that drives donor engagement, personalized strategies, and fundraising outcomes.

Ensures a complete and updated policy and procedure manual which outlines processes and procedures across Foundation.

Maintains relationship with HSHS treasury; understands the current state of investment earnings; partners with Finance to ensure appropriate accounting of all funds.

Works with finance and legal teams to ensure adherence to regulations and ethical standards.

Ensures Operations team is functioning for the advancement of the entire Foundation’s success, including through centralized workflows, advancement of data health, and innovative strategies that enable fundraising staff to spend their time fundraising.

Identifies and onboards new Board members representative of the communities the Foundation serves.

Provides regular communication to the Board in alignment with best practices in governance and in alignment with HSHS Board practices.

Partners with the Board Chair to ensure that Board fulfills its fiduciary responsibility; this includes development; all Foundation Board agendas and workplan; and management of all relationships with Board Members.


Leads a team of colleagues in human resource initiatives including but not limited to; performance management; education and development; selection and retention; workforce planning; coaching and counseling; and supporting activities that promote colleague engagement and satisfaction. 

Leads or supports the financial resource functions including but not limited to; managing expenses; preparing, monitoring and executing within limits of the budget; monitors productivity standards; manages the purchasing process and all decisions related to the finances for the area of responsibility. 

Leads or supports change and process improvement initiatives including but not limited to; strives for standard, efficient and value-added processes; communicates a clear vision; influences and motivates others; and develops strong relationships with key stakeholders.
