Position Summary

Plans, implements, and coordinates medical staff compliance with quality indicators, performance profiles and ensures adherence to state, federal, and other applicable standards by the medical staff members with medical staff privileges. Manages aspects of the medical staff department activities. Provides oversight to credentialing and re-credentialing files and processes of the medical staff and allied health professionals.  Oversees and stays abreast on current regulatory requirements related to credentialing and medical staff policies.  Assists in managing financials and productivity of the department.


Education

Bachelor's degree in healthcare management or other health/business related field is required.

Master's degree in healthcare management or other health/business related field is preferred.

In lieu of bachelor's degree, may consider high school diploma or equivalent plus 5 years of experience working in a medical staff/credentialing setting AND certification as a Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) and/or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) within three years.  


Experience

5 years of experience or equivalent in credentialing is required.

3 years of demonstrated leadership experience is required. 


Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) is preferred.

Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) is preferred.

Responsibilities

Assists with oversight of Medical Staff Services responsibilities related to credentialing, including credential file reviews, agenda/minute reviews, process questions and orientations, expireables, student credentialing, and special letters of Medical Staff Services. 

Provides expertise on Medical Staff Bylaws, Credentialing Policies, Rules, and Regulations, including internal policies/procedures. 

Participates in PPE processes.  Monitors and conducts OPPE and FPPE in conjunction with the Department Chairs and the Chief Medical Officer.

Attends Medical Staff meetings, Department Chairperson review, Credentials Committee, and Board of Directors, as appropriate.  Manages committee membership. Ensures proper scheduling, distribution of meeting notices, and accurate and timely follow-up to meetings. 

Reviews operating policies and procedures and recommends changes that will improve productivity and quality of care.

May assist in researching and developing credentialing criteria and privilege cards.

Acts as consultant for Joint Commission, state, and other regulatory requirements.

Develops and implements new medical staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations in accordance with current Bylaws, the Bylaws Committee, the Medical Staff Executive Committee, and the Board of Directors when applicable.

Acts as legal counsel liaison for Medical Staff Services functions related to quality concerns.

Oversees web-based credentialing/quality database; reports and letters. Provides administrative support to Medical Staff and Allied Health Professionals regarding Medical Staff issues.

Oversees concern management program related to clinical Medical Staff concerns.

Oversees Halo call schedule operations.


Leads a team of colleagues in human resource initiatives including but not limited to; performance management; education and development; selection and retention; workforce planning; coaching and counseling; and supporting activities that promote colleague engagement and satisfaction. 

Leads or supports the financial resource functions including but not limited to; managing expenses; preparing, monitoring and executing within limits of the budget; monitors productivity standards; manages the purchasing process and all decisions related to the finances for the area of responsibility. 

Leads or supports change and process improvement initiatives including but not limited to; strives for standard, efficient and value-added processes; communicates a clear vision; influences and motivates others; and develops strong relationships with key stakeholders.
