Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN)-Regional Float is designated to float to ministries/units across a region (multiple ministries) within the state. Will float to specialty area(s) based on RN competency level. Completes appropriate competency and cross-training required to float to designated units. Promotes and restores patients' health by completing the nursing process, collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members, providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families, and supervising assigned team members. Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards, making or recommending necessary adjustments, and following nursing philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations. Float may be assigned to units/ministries reflecting lower level patient acuity based on needs of the organization.


Education

Graduate from an accredited and approved school of nursing accepted for licensure in the state of practice is required.

Bachelor’s degree in nursing is preferred.


Experience

2 years experience as a Registered Nurse is required.


Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice is required.

Wisconsin:  RNs may begin employment with a valid multi-state RN license; a WI RN license will be required within 30 days of establishing permanent residency.

Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.

Certification in area of specialty is preferred but, in some cases, may be required to float.

Responsibilities

Maintains competency for job requirements reflecting skill level for appropriate specialty area and various ministries.Floats to specialty areas/ministries across region(s) within the state based on determined need by leadership.Follows nursing process in evaluation, intervention, and planning of patient care.Evaluates each patient and his/her progress towards expected outcomes and updates the plan of care accordingly.

Reports progress to other healthcare team members as necessary.Maintains ongoing communication with multidisciplinary team members to assess, reassess and prioritize needs of patients and unit, including outcomes and goals.Provides age appropriate direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, and consults with other disciplines as needed with consideration of physical, psychological, social, cultural, spiritual, environmental, self-care, education, and discharge planning factors.Reassesses at regular intervals to determine patient response to interventions.

Uses nursing judgment to determine the appropriate frequency and components of reassessment.Organizes and prioritizes care for the patients within the team.Identifies and makes appropriate referrals for education/further assessment (i.e. nutritional services, spiritual care, diabetic educator, social services).


Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed.  Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate.

Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable.  Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials.  Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals.

Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality.  Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline.  Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues.

Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work.  Actively involves the patient and family in decisions about care.  Promotes quality care by participating in organizational councils/committees and/or support of related process.  Documents services provided to patients in the electronic medical record in accordance with policy and requirements.
