Position Summary | Performs office duties using specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic or laboratory procedures. Duties may include scheduling appointments, registering and checking-in patients, verifying insurance benefits and authorization, reconciling charges, collecting departmental performance improvement data, generating procedure reports and other secretarial duties such as managing telephone calls, typing and filing. | | | |

Experience | 2 years secretarial experience (preference for medical/hospital setting) is required. |

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Proficient computer skills and a high level of knowledge related to using Microsoft Office applications. | Medical terminology and transcription knowledge. | Experience utilizing an electronic medical record. | Demonstrates customer service skills to build strong relationships; is friendly and service oriented. | Demonstrates written communication skills. | Highly dependable and maintains composure under pressure. | Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities. |
Responsibilities | Receives and directs all incoming and outgoing telephone calls. | Performs general department secretarial duties to ensure a well-organized and functioning department. | Assists with collecting and monitoring department data. | May collect patient data to generate and maintain reports. | May schedule and confirm patient diagnostic appointments, and medical consultations. | May compile and scan/download labs, reports, and correspondence into electronic medical record. | Enter demographics and other necessary information into electronic medical record. | Operate office equipment such as voice mail messaging systems, and use word processing, spreadsheet, and other software applications to prepare reports, letters, etc. | Transmit correspondence and medical records by mail, e-mail, or fax. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Abides by all safety requirements including demonstrating proper hand hygiene and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with team members. |
