Position Summary | The Radiology Technologist Assistant is responsible for assisting radiology technologists in providing imaging procedures performed on patients in the various units of the radiology department in accordance with physicians' orders and the policies and procedures established by the hospital and other governing bodies. | | | |
Education | High School Diploma or GED is preferred. | Current college student or associates degree is preferred. |
Experience | Clinical experience and a basic understanding of medical terminology is preferred. | Must possess good communication and human relation skills. Demonstrates knowledge and skills in providing age appropriate care to those patients defined in the service’s plan for providing care. Demonstrates respect for patient confidentiality and uses complete discretion with patient information. Never discusses a diagnosis with the patient or others. Integrates the hospital’s mission and vision into daily tasks through dedication to customer satisfaction, quality improvement and collaborative working relationships. |

Responsibilities | Cleans radiographic and other related equipment. | Prepare patients for imaging procedures with an explanation of the exam. | Assist the technologist in positioning patients for each exam. | Process images and make them available for the technologist or physician. | Assist with the preparation of barium and IV solutions for administration to patients. | Assist quality control technologist as needed. | Maintain stock and supplies in each room. | Use lead shields and aprons whenever possible for the protection of themselves and their patients. | Assist the technologist and radiologists in the performance of imaging procedures. | Assist with the performance of portable exams as needed in the Emergency Department and throughout the hospital. | Work with the radiology technologist and the quality control technologist by reporting any machine problems or errors. | Transports patients as needed throughout the radiology department and at times back to their rooms. | Operates radiology department computer system as designed. | Uses the PACS system to process and retrieve images. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials. Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues. | Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work. Actively involves the patient and family in decisions about care. Promotes quality care by participating in organizational councils/committees and/or support of related process.
