Position Summary

Provides leadership, expertise and functional direction to team members to ensure the continuity of patient registration functions within assigned area of responsibility. Works closely with the leader to plan, implement, and facilitate the work activity of the area to accomplish goals and objectives. May facilitate billing, cashiering, patient registration and communications functions. Provides staff education when required.


Education

High School Diploma or GED is required.Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare or related field is preferred.


Experience

2 years of healthcare or clerical/administrative experience is required.

Responsibilities

Orients and trains new staff in the work/services provided by the unit, as well as, updating current staff as appropriate.Assists management with colleague scheduling, provides input regarding colleague productivity and with the selection of new staff.Is the expert resource and lead person for the functional activities performed by the unit.Maintains knowledge and developments in unit functions overall and specifically in assigned work unit in relationship to goals and objectives.May provide input to colleague performance reviews.May prepare and assimilate monthly reports.Interviews patients to obtain all required financial and demographic information necessary to register that patient for any services needed.Enters all collected information into the electronic patient record.

Informs patients/guarantors of their insurance co-pay, coinsurance and/or deductibles and collects at time of registration.Fills out appropriate forms and receipts to complete the cash collection process.Obtains copies of patients’ insurance cards, photo ID and secures appropriate consents and insurance assignments.Balances out cash and credit card transactions at the end of each shift and maintains individual cash bag in accordance with the cash control procedure.Responsible for monitoring quality of patient registration activities to ensure patient care standards are being met.


Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed.  Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate.

Abides by all safety requirements including demonstrating proper hand hygiene and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. 

Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality.  Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with team members.
