Position Summary | The Manager-Spiritual Care & Mission Operations provides leadership in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of programs and activities related to Mission and Spiritual Care. Manages all Spiritual Care staff and ensures high-quality standards of professionalism and services. Works collaboratively with leaders, colleagues, volunteers, and patients/families. | | | |
Education | Bachelor's degree in theology, scripture, spirituality, ethics or related field is required. | Master's degree in theology, scripture, spirituality, ethics or related field is preferred. | One (1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education from an Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) or Clinical Pastoral Education International (CPEi) Accredited Center required. | Total of two (2) to four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education from an Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) or Clinical Pastoral Education International (CPEi) Accredited Center is required within two (2) years of hire. |
Experience | 3 years of leadership experience is required. | A practicing member within a faith tradition that is in good standing with 2 years experience working in Catholic healthcare, mission, spiritual care or related experience is required. | Experience working with electronic medical records (EMRs) and proficiency with Microsoft Outlook Suite is required. Must also be comfortable navigating and utilizing a variety of digital applications and communication tools such as Workday, Microsoft Teams, Halo/Clinical Comms, Epic, Zoom, or Webex Video. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Certification with National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) or Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC), or CASC (Canadian Association of Spiritual Care) is required within three (3) years of hire. |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Strong understanding of the Catholic Church and its teachings. | Knowledge of the Ethical and Religious Directives (ERD's) for Catholic Healthcare Services. | Strong organizational, time management and priority setting skills. | Strong written and verbal communication skills. | Ability to work as a team member; demonstrate poise and clarity in group presentations. | Builds and manages effective teams as well as inspires and develops staff. | Instills commitment to organizational goals. |
Responsibilities | Collaborates with Mission Integration leadership to advance the HSHS Mission Integration Strategic Plan. | Ensures spiritual care is provided throughout the ministry which may include, but is not limited to, facilitating family interactions, providing sacraments, facilitating end of life rituals, liturgy/prayer services and facilitating anticipatory grief during critical situations. | Collaborates with leaders and staff to conduct Mission and Ministry Assessments: (i.e., Catholic Health Association's Ministry Identity Assessment and/or National Catholic Bioethics Center's Catholic Identity and Ethics Review, etc. ) and participates in action planning/implementation processes following assessment. | Provides critical incident stress management, as requested by leadership/staff for colleagues directly involved in critical incident while ensuring rounding on colleagues is occurring following incident | Participates on the Ethics Committee and ensures Spiritual Care staff fulfill any assigned role in ethics triage. | Utilizes and promotes use of technology and telehealth services to address the spiritual needs of those HSHS serves in the acute and ambulatory settings while optimizing the reporting function within the electronic medical record to ensure quality care and best practices are provided. | Promotes, participates, leads and /or attends formation opportunities that promote HSHS Franciscan Heritage, Catholic Social Teaching, ERD's, spiritual and ethical growth. | Assists in providing ministry specific and community education related to a variety of topics as the subject matter expert (i.e., ERC's grief/loss, advance care planning, spiritual health & wellness and/or spiritual distress). | Ensures inpatient and ambulatory/clinic spiritual care referrals are responded to timely and quality assessment and initiates are conducted. | Assists in gathering information that tells the story of how the organization is living its mission and embodying core values or Respect, Care, Competence, and Joy. |
Leads a team of colleagues in human resource initiatives including but not limited to; performance management; education and development; selection and retention; workforce planning; coaching and counseling; and supporting activities that promote colleague engagement and satisfaction. | Leads or supports the financial resource functions including but not limited to; managing expenses; preparing, monitoring and executing within limits of the budget; monitors productivity standards; manages the purchasing process and all decisions related to the finances for the area of responsibility. | Leads or supports change and process improvement initiatives including but not limited to; strives for standard, efficient and value-added processes; communicates a clear vision; influences and motivates others; and develops strong relationships with key stakeholders. |
