Position Summary | Promotes and restores patients' health by collaborating with cardiovascular specialty physicians and multidisciplinary team members, providing physical and psychological support to patients and their families in structural heart, cardiovascular/cardiothoracic surgery, or electrophysiology sub-specialties. Promotes patient's independence by establishing patient care goals, teaching patient, friends, and family to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills, and answering questions regarding highly complex healthcare topics. Assures quality of care by adhering to guideline driven practices, measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards, making or recommending necessary adjustments, and following nursing philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations. | | | |
Education | Diploma or associates degree in nursing is required.Bachelor’s degree in nursing is preferred. |
Experience | 2 years nursing experience is required.1 year critical care, specialty cardiac nursing, cath lab, or general cardiology practice is required.Experience with complex duties involving Electrophysiology (EP) or device interrogation/interpretation/management, pulling chest tubes/packing wires, pacemaker or defibrillator checks, wound care experience is preferred. | Anti-arrhythmic pharmaceutical management experience is preferred.Knowledge of electrophysiology or structural heart therapies: Watchman, TAVR, MitraClip; Extra vascular internal cardiac defibrillators; Atrioventricular micra wireless permanent pacemakers; EBR system wireless left ventricular lead placement is preferred. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice is required. Wisconsin: RNs may practice with a valid multi-state RN license as outlined in the Nurse Licensure Compact rules. | Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. | Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required. |

Responsibilities | First-assist and scrub on vein procedures (laser assist and radiofrequency ablation procedures).Hospital rounding daily, on-call pager coverage for patients. | Potential weekend call/rounding every other weekend. | Direct support and screening of MRI (with radiology) for pacemaker patients.In consultation with a physician, interpret complex imaging modalities including: cath images, chest and abdominal CTA (computed tomography angiography), and echocardiography.Perform offline measurements within each modality to determine valve sizing, peripheral vessel sizing, coronary anatomy and peripheral vascular sizing.Create presentations for provider review for CTA images, Echocardiograms, PFT (Pulmonary Function Testing), 6-minute walk results, etc. for purpose of appropriate diagnosis and treatment.Act as liaison between cardiac surgery, electrophysiology, and structural physicians. | Manage various research databases for all structural, CVS, and EP heart procedures.Measure CTA images with adequate measuring of valve gradients. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials. Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues. | Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work.
