Position Summary | Provide in-depth knowledge and demonstrate technical skills and knowledge pertinent to the specialty area of practice. Facilitates the development and implementation of ambulatory nursing and clinical initiatives. Assesses current ambulatory care delivery patterns and coordinates the development and implementation of ambulatory nursing and clinical policies and procedures. Plans, implements, and evaluates competencies and educational activities to promote high standards of clinical practice in the ambulatory setting. | | | |
Education | Bachelor’s degree in nursing is required. | Master’s degree in nursing or related field is preferred. | Associates degree in nursing plus 3 years nursing experience may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree. |
Experience | 4 years nursing experience is required. (This experience is in addition to the experience in lieu of bachelor's degree.) | 2 years clinical training and/or education experience is preferred. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Illinois is required. | Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. |

Responsibilities | Participates in the orientation of new colleagues or students in the clinical setting. | Identifies areas of opportunity for standardization of clinical practice. | Uses the results of quality monitoring data and other evidence-based content to plan and conduct annual competency verification activity that assure compliance with accreditation and regulatory bodies. | Reviews internal guidelines, policies, and procedures for consistency with evidence-based practice and develops recommendations for enhancement. | Identifies educational needs of clinical staff to develop, implement and evaluate education programs, product in-services, and other staff development activities. | Initiates and/or participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of care and practice. | Facilitates implementation and evaluation of initiatives to achieve improvement in clinical care. | Instructs and/or facilitates teaching clinical staff about new products, techniques, research, interventions, or standards. | Evaluates patient care/outcomes based on established standards of clinical practice. | Acts as a resource to nursing leadership for policy decisions which have actual or potential impact on the quality of nursing care and support management personnel in their decision- making role. | Acts as a positive professional role model and demonstrates adaptability to changing nursing trends. | Collaborates with other health care providers to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive patient care. | Provides objective input regarding colleague performance evaluation to leadership as requested. | Demonstrates sensitivity to patient’s comfort, privacy, and respect for patient’s rights and confidentiality. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials. Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues. | Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work.
