Position Summary | The Biomedical Equipment Technician I (BMET I) maintains medical equipment in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations or in accordance with the Alternative Equipment Management (AEM) Plan. Performs a variety of routine tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, calibration and repair of a limited scope of biomedical equipment under the guidance and close supervision of BMET II and BMET III colleagues. | | | |
Education | High School Diploma or equivalent is required. | Associates degree in biomedical technology, engineering or related discipline is preferred. |
Experience | Experience as a Biomedical Equipment Technician is desired. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) is preferred. | Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) is preferred. |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information. | Maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with team members. | Quickly troubleshoots and resolves problems. | Possesses strong technical aptitude and product knowledge. | Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills. |
Responsibilities | Works with an experienced Biomedical Technicians for installation, maintenance, and repair of medical equipment and resolution of difficult issues. | Performs departmental rounding with other departments to promote communication, enhance learning, and to provide consistent quality service. | Develops customer service skills through interacting and developing relationships with physicians, patients, visitors, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals. | Repairs, tests and calibrates equipment according to manufacturers’ recommendations and other established guidelines and in accordance with current policies and procedures. | Assists in ordering parts and supplies necessary for servicing medical equipment. | Prioritizes workload and responsibilities effectively to complete work in a timely manner. | Maintains timely, accurate and thorough documentation required by management and as outlined in current department policies and procedures. | Assists BMET II and BMET III colleagues with user training and in-services. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Abides by all safety requirements including demonstrating proper hand hygiene and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with team members. |
