Education | High School Diploma, GED or related vocational training is required |
Experience | Two years facilities maintenance is required. | Three years stationary engineer experience preferred. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Valid state driver’s license and must be insurable to operate hospital vehicles is required. | Power Plant Operating Engineer – Second Class License is preferred. | HVAC Certification is preferred. |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, and lift. Must be able to tolerate variable amounts of standing, walking and/or sedentary activity. Must possess manual dexterity to handle and manipulate equipment and appliances. Must rotate different hours, shifts, and/or assigned areas, as well as be called in during emergencies to provide adequate coverage. | Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information. | Possesses strong technical aptitude and product knowledge. | Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty. | Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment. | Ability to drive multiple projects to successful completion. |
Responsibilities | Performs or assists in the routine preventative maintenance, repair, and operation of affiliate’s systems and components, including but not limited to: steam/heating/domestic hot water boilers and their delivery system, chillers, circulatory pumps, water softeners, chemical treatment pumps and systems, air handling units, emergency generators, medical gas tanks and systems, building water system, pneumatic tube system, incinerators (as applicable), and any other maintenance as recommended by the equipment manufacturer; responds to maintenance requisitions from other departments in a timely manner; Provides maintenance to all areas of the affiliate unless the situation warrants help from Plant Services on-call personnel. | Performs routine inspection of affiliate’s systems and components, including but not limited to: the central utility plant, emergency generators, mechanical spaces, medical gas tanks or systems, water purification systems, hot water boilers, fire alarm panels, and inventory of maintenance supplies; tours building and identifies building items that need to be addressed; documents activities in the affiliate’s computer building records management system; uses affiliate’s purchasing system to orders parts and supplies as necessary | Assists other team members with the following: snow and ice mitigation, boilers and related controls, operating the building automation controls, water testing or culturing, grounds maintenance and trash collection, movement of furniture or equipment, or other ‘hand-on’ requests as needed; assists in the affiliate’s security management program | Responds to building emergency conditions, including but not limited to: fire alarms, utility failures, medical emergencies or patient surges |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed.
