Position Summary

As a core member of the ministry leader team, provides leadership and oversight for the ministry as a whole. Responsible for nursing, serving as the DON for their ministry, as well as direct accountability for all ministry operations. The CAO partners with the communities in which we serve in conjunction with the market CEO, CNO and CMO. Partners with corporate shared services for business, Legal, IT, HR and Finance for business strategies and support.


Education

Master’s degree in business, healthcare administration, management, finance or related field is required or must be actively pursuing degree and graduate within 2 years of assuming the role.


Experience

7 years leadership experience role in a hospital or health system, multi-specialty group practice and/or integrated delivery system is required.


Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice is required within 90 days of date of hire. Wisconsin:  RNs may practice with a valid multi-state RN license as outlined in the Nurse Licensure Compact rules. 

Certification in Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provides oversight and operational accountability for nursing as as the DON of the ministry as well as all other operational departments within the ministry. Works with market CNO and COO to ensure seamless strategic alignment for both nursing and operations within the ministry and across the system.

Recommends annual and long-range plans, strategies and budgets for optimum operation of HSHS ministry to support overall key strategies, goals, objectives and organizational plans. Establishes goals and performance criteria, and measures performance on a regular basis. Ensures plans and strategy are aligned with assigned market as well as overall HSHS strategic plan.

Collaborates with ministry leaders and physician leaders to develop an environment conducive to collaboration and strategic alignment between the various departments within the ministry, leveraging the system’s diversity and provision of shared services; promotes widespread sharing of resources and information across the system with other ministries at HSHS.

Ensures HSHS ministry achieves and maintains a competitive position within the health care industry. Collaborates with other HSHS leaders to create care models that decrease unwanted clinical variation, reduce cost of care and increase access.

Creates culture and environment that attracts, motivates, develops and retains qualified leaders. Builds and maintains collaborative relationships and integrates various perspectives in strategic and operational decision-making.

Manages and is held accountable for the performance of the ministry in achieving its strategic, operational and financial goals. Implements interventions if needed.

Ensures continuous improvement in the quality and value of the services provided by HSHS ministry.  Ensures that the HSHS ministry activities and operations are carried out in compliance with standards, regulations, and laws governing health care organizations.

Fosters and engages in positive relationships with corporate shared services teams and other entities in hospitals as well as system areas; collaborates well and strives for solutions that are in the best interest of the entire HSHS organization focusing on both short-term and long-term, value-based results.


Leads a team of colleagues in human resource initiatives including but not limited to; performance management; education and development; selection and retention; workforce planning; coaching and counseling; and supporting activities that promote colleague engagement and satisfaction. 

Leads or supports the financial resource functions including but not limited to; managing expenses; preparing, monitoring and executing within limits of the budget; monitors productivity standards; manages the purchasing process and all decisions related to the finances for the area of responsibility. 

Leads or supports change and process improvement initiatives including but not limited to; strives for standard, efficient and value-added processes; communicates a clear vision; influences and motivates others; and develops strong relationships with key stakeholders.
