Position Summary | The System Manager–Clinical Informatics is responsible for planning, implementing, training, and supporting health information technology (HIT) initiatives for clinical colleagues across the System. Works in conjunction with fellow leaders in Information Technology Services (ITS) and operational departments to assure a coordinated approach. Collaborates with clinical and organizational leaders to identify, recommend, design, implement, and support appropriate HIT solutions for the clinical team with respect to multidisciplinary stakeholders. Manages the daily operations and colleagues in the Clinical Informatics department. | | | |
Education | Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required. | Master’s degree in Nursing, Information Technology, or related field is preferred. |
Experience | A minimum of 5 years of applied technical experience in a clinical environment, electronic medical record systems, or healthcare informatics is required. | A minimum of two years acute care bedside nursing experience is required. | Experience with Epic is preferred.Three years of supervisory/team lead experience is required. | Three years of demonstrated leadership experience may be considered in lieu of formal management experience. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice is required. Wisconsin: RNs may practice with a valid multi-state RN license as outlined in the Nurse Licensure Compact rules. |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate between clinical and technical teams. | Excellent interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with colleagues, medical staff, ITS, partner organizations, and vendors. | Adaptable and agile to respond creatively and quickly to the needs of a complex acute-care delivery system. | Comfortable with conflict management, consensus building, staff development, and coaching. | Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills and personal accountability for results. | Commitment to exemplary customer satisfaction including a strong sense of urgency around issue resolution. |
Responsibilities | Responsible for identifying, planning, developing, and implementing HIT solutions and services that enable and support clinical team care delivery. | Communicates ITS project plans, policies, and timelines with customers. | Provides pertinent information required by clinical and operational management to make appropriate and effective decisions related to technology investments.Maintain an active relationship with the nursing and physician leadership teams to identify technology opportunities to improve safety and care of patients and enhance clinical/operational workflows.Serves as a clinical champion for improved integration with physicians, nurses, and all clinical and operational departments.Provides and interprets data utilized in decision support, monitoring staff performance, quality initiatives, compliance, and hospital surveys. | Works with organizational leaders to identify gaps and develop action plans.Promotes and models change management principles to foster a responsive, agile team and facilitate well-executed change for clinical customers.Identifies creative solutions to problem and opportunities to enhance ITS’s value to the organization. | Monitors and ensures ongoing success of continuous improvement (CI) projects related to stated benefits and desired outcomes with an emphasis on clinician adoption and satisfaction. | Participates on committees and teams including, but not limited to, Informatics Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics and Clinical Standards Committee and System Clinical Leadership Committee to collaborate and determine allocation of resources to highest priority projects and to ensure systems always meet or exceed customer requirements. | Serves as an active member of the ITS leadership group.Proactively monitors industry trends, regulatory landscape, health informatics topics, and external factors impacting clinical workflows and technology needs.Collaborates with the Talent Development team to help deliver technical training for end users. |
