Position Summary

Provides educational programs for the appropriate region based on needs identified and established standards of care.  Responsible for the conception and development of educational programs and their successful implementation. 


Education

Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN) is required.

Master’s in Nursing (MSN) or field related to education is preferred. 


Experience

Five years of curriculum specific Nursing experience is required.  (i.e. neonatal, OB, etc.) 

Two years of curriculum specific Nursing is preferred. I.e. Level II/III Neonatal, OB is preferred.  


Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice is required.  Wisconsin:  RNs may practice with a valid multi-state RN license as outlined in the Nurse Licensure Compact rules.

Registered Nurse, Certified in Neonatal Intensive Care (RNC-NIC) or OB/Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) is preferred. 

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) instructor or Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurse (AWHONN) Fetal Monitoring Instructor within 1 year of hire is required. 

S.T.A.B.L.E Program lead instructor or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) instructor within 1 year of hire is required. 

Maintain a valid driver’s license is required.  (Travel is required in role 25% of the time).

Demonstrates competence in Microsoft office programs and other applicable software programs.


Responsibilities

Educates professional staff within the appropriate Perinatal Network.

Active participant of the network mobile simulation team.  Implementation of simulations will require travel and varying degrees of scheduling.  Responsible for all aspects of the applicable portion of the simulation program. (i.e. Neonatal/OB)

Neonatal Outreach educator required to be STABLE and NRP instructor.  Maternal Outreach educator required to be AWHONN Fetal Monitoring instructor.

Tracks and maintains required educational offering information to meet grant requirements of applicable state agency.

Develops individualized teaching programs (didactic, clinical, case studies, and simulation) for network personnel.

Perform regional educational needs assessment for each regional hospital at a minimum every other year.  Will develop and implement a plan to provide requested training and support

Applies for and maintains appropriate documentation maintaining compliance for continuing education for programs offered.

Participates as directed by the leadership team in data collection, review of patient and CQI data, and abstraction of charts in preparation for morbidity & mortality review meetings.   Completes assigned state required morbidity and mortality review forms as outlined by applicable state agency. Participates as necessary in state mandated continuous quality improvement activities and initiatives.

Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation for standards of care, policies, and procedures in the management of well and critically ill patients specific to position.

Maintains membership in the appropriate trade associate for specific curriculum and in the appropriate state required programs e.g. Perinatal Outreach Educators.

Participate as directed in regional hospital mandated redesignation site visits.


Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed.  Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate.

Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable.  Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials.  Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals.

Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality.  Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline.  Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues.

Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work.  Actively involves the patient and family in decisions about care.  Promotes quality care by participating in organizational councils/committees and/or support of related process.  Documents services provided to patients in the electronic medical record in accordance with policy and requirements.
