Position Summary | The Supervisor-Pharmacy Support Services provides direct supervision of pharmacy support staff and managing the activities assigned to the pharmacy and location, including overseeing daily pharmacy technician operations to ensure patient care needs are met. Ensures that patients and clinicians have timely access to medications and other pharmacy support staff have the resources and training necessary to perform their jobs effectively. This role will be responsible for helping guide efficient purchasing and distribution of medications, assisting with 340B optimization and analytics (for 340B facilities), and other pharmacy technician duties as assigned. | | | |
Education | Associates degree in healthcare, business administration or related field is required. | Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field or business administration is preferred. | 5 years of pharmacy technician experience in lieu of associates degree may be considered. |
Experience | 5 years of pharmacy experience, or 2 years of pharmacy or related hearth care experience with previous managerial or supervisory experience is required. | Experience purchasing, distribution, or analytics is preferred. | Experience with pharmacy inventory software and inventory analytics is preferred. | Understanding of 340B contract compliance when applicable to site of practice is preferred. | Experience with Epic Willow Inpatient is preferred. | 1 year of supervisory or demonstrated leadership experience is required. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Licensed or registred Pharmacy Technician in the state of practice is required. | Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) or National Healthcare Association (NHA) is required. |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Knowledgeable in Pharmacy law and regulations and Joint Commission Standards and USP 795, 797, and 800 regulations. | Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. | Ability to build strong customer relationships, collaborate effectively, and build strong teams. | Ability to lead and manage others, including providing effective coaching and constructive feedback. | Demonstrates a high commitment to quality and safety; quickly troubleshoots and resolves problems. |
Responsibilities | Supervises the pharmacy support staff by evaluating and counseling staff on their performance. Prepares appropriate task assignments for daily, weekly, and monthly responsibilities. Schedules department staff and is responsible for verifying and editing time and attendance information. Works collaboratively with pharmacy leadership to set performance standards/competencies for the pharmacy department and maintain pharmacy staff engagement. Addresses any daily operational issues and problem solving as required. | Performs duties of a pharmacy technician, pharmacy technician specialists I and II when needed to meet the needs of patients or department. May work in staff level capacity up to 15% of the time. | Coordinates the onboarding and training of new colleagues, including coordinating colleague training among different trainers. Serves as a mentor and coach for pharmacy colleagues. | Ensures pharmacy meets a high standard of confidentiality in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Ensures pharmacy customer service levels are maintained to meet the goals of the organization and ensure the quality of pharmacy services are consistently provided. Provide service recovery and conflict resolution when necessary to ensure service levels and quality of pharmacy services are maintained | Where applicable, reviews 340B program policies and procedures, observes pharmacy personal practice with regard to 340B inventory, utilization, documentation, waste and returns. Offers feedback to leadership regarding practice changes to optimize 340B compliance. Assist with 340B medication ordering, inventory management returns and audits | Maintain appropriate inventory of medications and supplies. Ensure inventory is rotated and expired stock is appropriately disposed of, and orders are placed in a timely manner. | Reviews medication event reports and identifies and implements process improvement opportunities. | Assists in the development of the pharmacy budget. Reviews monthly financial budget and explains variances to pharmacy leadership. Continually monitor pharmacy for compliance with annual budget and strategic plan. |
