Position Summary | The Supervisor-Pharmacy provides direct supervision and managing the activities assigned pharmacy / location, including compliance with laws and rules pertinent to the practice of pharmacy. Serves as part of the healthcare team by establishing an authentic personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system, collaborating with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate an individualized plan of care that promotes optimal health. | | | |
Education | Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy is required. | Master’s degree or Doctorate of Pharmacy is preferred. | Pharmacy PGY-1 Residency is preferred. |
Experience | 1 year of pharmacy experience is required. | 1 year of experience in a hospital setting or residence is preferred. | 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience is required. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Licensed Pharmacist in state of practice is required. | Pharmacy Board Certification is preferred. |

Responsibilities | Supervises the Pharmacy staff by evaluating and counseling staff on their performance. Prepares appropriate task assignments for daily, weekly, and monthly responsibilities. Schedules department staff and is responsible for verifying and editing time and attendance information. Works collaboratively with pharmacy leadership to set performance standards for the pharmacy department and maintain pharmacy staff engagement. Addresses any daily operational issues and problem solves as required. | May be designated as managing pharmacist on a pharmacy license (WI) or pharmacist in charge (Il) as required by state regulation. Oversees the operation of an assigned pharmacy in conformance with all laws and rules pertinent to the practice of pharmacy and the professional operations of the pharmacy. Actively assess the security of medication areas and the compliance of personnel with established policies, procedures, state and federal laws including record keeping. Maintains established procedures for quality control and disposal of unusable medications and hazardous waste. Issues controlled substances and maintain records as required by law, pharmacy policies, and procedures, including reporting to any applicable pharmacy drug monitoring program. Reviews controlled substances records for discrepancies/errors and reports discrepancies to the appropriate authority(s). | Serves as a resource to the pharmacy team, providers and nursing staff in the provision of pharmaceutical care. Ensures efficient operations by the development of standard workflows procedures. Serves as a professional mentor and coach for pharmacy colleagues. Provides feedback and information to the leadership team to aid in decision making processes. | Performs duties of a clinical staff pharmacist including verification medication orders, dispensing of medications, patient consultation and compounding following all pharmacy policies and procedures and in compliance with all state and federal regulations. | Ensures pharmacy meets a high standard of confidentiality in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Ensures pharmacy customer service levels are maintained to meet the goals of the organization and ensure the quality of pharmacy services are consistently provided. Provide service recovery and conflict resolution when necessary to ensure service levels and quality of pharmacy services are maintained. | Reviews medication event reports and identifies and implements process improvement opportunities. | Maintain appropriate inventory of medications and supplies. Ensure inventory is rotated and expired stock is appropriately disposed of and orders are placed in a timely manner. |
