Position Summary

The Coordinator-Cardiac Rehab directs and assists in oversight and coordination of the overall operational activities of the Cardiac Rehab department. This position will plan, coordinate, provide and evaluate care services within the Cardiac Rehab department. Performs in-depth level of coordination, planning, developing, evaluating, and implementing Cardiac Rehab program growth and expansion. As the Cardiac Rehab program expert, will make decisions on a small scale regarding the Cardiac Rehab programs day-to-day operations in the absence of the Director-Cath Lab.


Education

Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Health Education, Physical Education or Exercise physiology with a Cardiac Rehab emphasis is required.


Experience

3 years related experience in cardiopulmonary rehab is required.


Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is obtained within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the safe and effective operation of the Cardiac Rehab department and related support systems. Performs all aspects of cardiac, vascular, and pulmonary rehabilitation operations in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, industry standards and safe practices. Reinforces education as it relates to cardiac rehab and therapy. Assists in patient preparation for treatment, maintains complete and accurate patient records as they pertain to treatment documentation. Has the authority to restrict or remove any potentially hazardous supply or equipment items with the approval of the Department Director and or Medical Director.

Coordinates and facilitates day to day operations of assigned service areas. Uses clinical processes to assess, plan, implement, provide, supervise, and evaluate care being provided. Orients, schedules, coordinates colleagues and providers within assigned service areas. Assists in identification of and works on process improvement opportunities. Schedules activities, delegates responsibilities and provides notification to others as necessary. Managing supplies and inventory and creating and evaluating long-term programs and strategy for the department.

Monitors patient safety and physiologic response to exercise in all phases of cardiac, vascular, and pulmonary rehabilitation. Proficient in dysrhythmia recognition and key interpretation.  Provides clear and concise documentation including initial evaluation, progress notes, and discharge summary in a timely manner for all patients. Recognizes contraindications for treatment and contact physician immediately.  Recognizes when environmental conditions exceed parameters and modifies treatment.

Ensures compliance with regulatory, legal and hospital accreditation standards, evaluates effectiveness of patient care, and reviews staff performance as needed. Coordinates and follows-up on all initiatives as assigned by department director. Maintains competencies, continuing education, and certifications of colleagues as appropriate.

May assist with financial resource functions related to cardiac rehabilitation services including but not limited to; providing input for annual budget; managing expenses; preparing, monitoring, and executing within limits of the budget; and managing the purchasing process.
