Position Summary

Responsible for financial accounting for Physician Enterprise and assigned affiliates and routinely communicates with their leaders regarding financial close, issues and deliverables.  Oversees timely and accurate financial reporting for assigned HSHS affiliates including reconciliations for all general ledger accounts and maintains the financial close process and quarterly reviews of their financial statements.  Assists with yearly audit preparation and serves as primary contact for external and internal auditors for the assigned affiliate.


Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.


Experience

5 years' experience working with a hospital or healthcare organization is required.

5 years' experience in accounting, finance, related field is required.

3 years leadership experience is required.


Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.

Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) accounting, organizational auditing, fixed asset accounting, and tax filing requirements.


Responsibilities

Oversees a team of staff accountants, ensures timely and accurate monthly and quarterly financial data. Directs, establishes, and coordinates the preparation of financial statements and all related activity. Reviews financial statement information reflecting the cash balance, revenues, expenditures and assets' position. Reviews operating policies and procedures and recommends changes that will improve productivity. 

Responsible for month-end close procedures including preparation and review of account reconciliations for more complex accounting areas and maintaining the general accounting system. Verifies enterprise and subsystem transactions are recorded correctly to ensure accuracy of balance sheets, income statements, and other financial activities. Performs complex multi-system reconciliations; navigates through multiple complex systems and reporting tools to independently investigate and resolve non-routine discrepancies.

Participates in the planning and preparation of annual budget. Monitors receipts and expenditures against budget and preopares periodic (e.g. monthly, quarterly) reports showing variance of operating results from budget.

Oversees general accounting and accounts payable processing of payments to vendors and maintains the correct and accurate accounting classification of all expenditures and documents. Regulates entries to the general ledger or sub systems and ensures adherence to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), regulatory requirements and financial reporting considerations. Ensure records are being maintained timely and accurately.

Maintains strong internal controls in areas of assigned responsibility to provide reasonable assurance of effective and appropriate resource use, accurate financial information and adherence to contractual obligations, agreements, policies, procedures and external regulatory requirements. 

Responds to inquiries from the Director, Controller, and other finance and system-wide leaders regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like. Works with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely year end audit including preparation of various audit requests and inquiries. Works collaboratively with department leaders, Legal, and Compliance as needed.


Leads a team of colleagues in human resource initiatives including but not limited to; performance management; education and development; selection and retention; workforce planning; coaching and counseling; and supporting activities that promote colleague engagement and satisfaction. 

Leads or supports the financial resource functions including but not limited to; managing expenses; preparing, monitoring and executing within limits of the budget; monitors productivity standards; manages the purchasing process and all decisions related to the finances for the area of responsibility. 

Leads or supports change and process improvement initiatives including but not limited to; strives for standard, efficient and value-added processes; communicates a clear vision; influences and motivates others; and develops strong relationships with key stakeholders.
