Position Summary | The Multimodality Imaging Technologist I performs imaging procedures and patient care within diagnostic x-ray and one (1) or more advanced imaging modality. The advanced imaging modalities include CT, MRI, or mammography. The Multimodality Imaging Technologist I will function independently and must meet all the minimum qualifications and requirements for the modalities in which they practice. | | | |
Education | Associates degree in allied health, applied/radiologic science or certificate program is required. |
Experience | 1 year of radiology/imaging experience is required. | Experience working in an advanced modality is preferred. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Certification as a Registered Radiologic Technologist (RT(R)) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required. | Certification in an advanced modality through ARRT is preferred (Computed Tomography (CT), Mammography (M), or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR)). | License Radiographer in the state of practice is required. | Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. |

Responsibilities | Routinely works within two or more imaging modalities, with 50% or more focus in an advanced modality. Performs a variety of high quality imaging procedures used in the diagnostic treatment of illness and injuries, according to exam protocol and in a timely manner. May perform or assist physicians in special or advanced procedures. Maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures. Flexible to staff different platforms or locations. | Practices radiation protection consistent with guidelines. | Help position patients and select anatomic and technical parameters accurately. | Maintains positive communication with patient; respects and assures privacy of the patient; performs and adjusts each procedures based on patient needs; and provides a comfortable and safe environment for patient during the procedure/exam. | Documents patient history and other pertinent information for Radiologist’s interpretation. | Understands and accurately uses radiology software systems (PACS and EMR). Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history). | Prepare and administer contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations. | Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department. Assists in maintaining supplies inventory. | Maintains equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards. Reports equipment malfunctions in a timely manner and makes arrangements for repairs, if instructed. | Maintains accurate quality control logs, service records; accurately records number of patients imaged, exams performed, and protocols used. | Participates in the orientation, preceptorship, and mentoring of students, physicians and other staff as appropriate. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials. Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues. | Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work. Actively involves the patient and family in decisions about care. Promotes quality care by participating in organizational councils/committees and/or support of related process. Documents services provided to patients in the electronic medical record in accordance with policy and requirements. |
