Position Summary | Provides oversight and leadership for the laboratory services across the assigned market. Manages overall operational, budgetary, and financial responsibilities and activities. Plans and implements systems that accomplish work objectives and fulfill the mission and goals efficiently and effectively. | | | |
Education | Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory Science is required. | Master’s degree in Laboratory Science or related discipline is preferred. |
Experience | 5 years laboratory experience is required. | 3 years leadership experience in laboratory is required. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), American Medical Technologies (AMT), Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW), or other laboratory certifying agency is required. |

Responsibilities | Maintains effective working relationships, through effective communication, with all members of the interdisciplinary team including vendors, affiliate directors and colleagues. | Provides reports and updates to the System on a regular basis. Plans programs/projects to meet patient needs and/or clinical personnel needs. | Ensures and monitors quality of work, quality control and test reporting. Troubleshoots complaints and uses good problem-solving techniques. | Demonstrates ability to provide leadership through level of confidence, trust and support in decision and procedure implementation. | Manages daily activities as well as long range planning; consolidates activities and maximizes workflow efficiency. | Aligns resources across assigned market to make certain that duplication is minimized. Promotes an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to ensure a quality patient experience and clinical outcome. | Inventories talent and resources across area of responsibility within the assigned market to make certain resources are appropriately allocated. | Effectively builds teams across the assigned market ensuring that all colleagues' talents are utilized appropriately and are supported. | Makes sound business decisions keeping the assigned market entities in mind, paying particular attention to any potential implications or adverse impacts of such decisions. | Develops and implements measures to monitor and evaluate productivity for optimum resource utilization. |
Leads a team of colleagues in human resource initiatives including but not limited to; performance management; education and development; selection and retention; workforce planning; coaching and counseling; and supporting activities that promote colleague engagement and satisfaction. | Leads or supports the financial resource functions including but not limited to; managing expenses; preparing, monitoring and executing within limits of the budget; monitors productivity standards; manages the purchasing process and all decisions related to the finances for the area of responsibility. | Leads or supports change and process improvement initiatives including but not limited to; strives for standard, efficient and value-added processes; communicates a clear vision; influences and motivates others; and develops strong relationships with key stakeholders. |
