Position Summary | Emergency Technician II, under the direction of a registered nurse, assists in the care of patients by performing triage, registration, basic lab tests, EKG's and related routine, non-clinical nursing care. Able to obtain data and evaluate care needed and provide appropriate documentation relative to patient condition and care given. Education | High School Diploma, GED, or related vocational training is required. |
Experience | 6 months of experience in an acute setting patient care role is required. | 6 months of experience in emergency trauma care is preferred. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | EMT (Emergency Medical Technician), EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, EMT-Paramedic, active enrollment in EMT Paramedic program with IV training completion or CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) certification is required. | Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. |

Responsibilities | Performs intravenous access including peripheral IVs based on competency, venipunctures and capillary punctures to collect blood samples based on competency, perform placement of indwelling Foley catheters and straight catheterization when needed to obtain urine samples under sterile technique. May perform 12-lead electrocardiograms as directed; trained to collect specimens for COVID, RSV, and influenza; performs point-of-care testing, including blood glucose tests, rapid strep tests, i-STAT creatinine tests, and urine pregnancy tests. | Assist triaging high-priority patients by asking non-clinical questions, complete infection screening and allotment screening, including, but not limited to initial triaging of patients, strokes, codes, traumas, sepsis, acute coronary symptom patients and update this required documentation in patient's medical record, while preserving patient confidentiality. | Assist the nursing team in providing care to patients under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, including but not limited to obtaining vital signs and assist with ambulating and toileting patients within the department. | Contributes to the plan of care in a safe, knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner with input from the patient/family and other members of the health care team | Assists providers with simple procedures and performs basic wound care, as well as splinting, bandaging, and placement of orthopedic devices. | Answers call signals promptly to expedite delivery of patient care services and rounds on patients while reporting any acute findings in a closed loop communication with the nursing staff and providers. | Trained with using specialized equipment. Demonstrates competence when operating equipment with concern for patient safety. Assists in the care and maintenance of equipment and supplies. | Transports patients throughout the hospital setting as directed; stocks patient care rooms, patient care carts, specialty carts, and linen cabinets within the department. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials. Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues. | Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work.
