Position Summary

Under direct or general supervision, the Unified Communications Engineer's role is to ensure the stability and integrity of in-house voice, video, and wireless telecom services.  In addition, the Unified Communications Engineer will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all Telecom hardware, software, and communication links. This position will also analyze and resolve Telecom hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion.

Associates degree in Computer Science or related field is required.

High School Diploma or equivalent plus 3 years of experience in information technology may be accepted in lieu of an Associates degree.

1 year experience configuring and supporting Cisco Unified Communications or Avaya Infrastructure is preferred.

1 year experience troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose issues in large-scale voice implementations is preferred.

1 year of experience with Telecom or Network systems, protocols, and standards such as Ethernet, LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), H.323, G.711, and T.38 is preferred.

Possesses good understanding of information technology systems and products.

Demonstrated ability to achieve objectives, balance multiple priorities, communicate effectively and stay organized.

Basic working knowledge of project management.

Networking knowledge, including relevant protocols (TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol), DNS (Domain Name System), etc)

Possesses basic technical aptitude and initiative to continually expand knowledge base.

Installs and maintains Unified Communications equipment to support enterprise future business growth and the movement and/or expansion of enterprise units.

Analyzes and resolves problems called in and repairs or replaces the malfunctioning equipment quickly.

Assists in implementation, troubleshooting and resolution of third-party issues.

Manages multiple assignments in an organized way.

Keeps documentation of all enterprise Unified Communications Systems up to date.

Monitors and tunes the enterprise Unified Communications Systems for optimal performance.

Coordinates all testing phases of associated applications during implementations and upgrades.

Assists in implementing, maintaining and monitoring all conferencing equipment.

Develops strong relationships with end user communities, customers and business partners.

Documents system problems and resolutions for future reference.

Provides evening, night, and/or weekend on-call support as scheduled.

Assists with the coordination and implementation of Tier 1 information technology (IT) projects.

Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed.  Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate.

Abides by all safety requirements including demonstrating proper hand hygiene and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. 

Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality.  Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with team members.
