Position Summary

The System Director-Clinical Strategic Sourcing facilitates workflow and activities within all clinical supply chain sourcing categories. Coordinates movement of clinical contracting projects through the process and collaborates with internal stakeholders and vendors to meet organizational goals.  


Education

Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, health care, or related field is required.

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is preferred.

High School Diploma and five years of healthcare leadership, strategic sourcing, or supply chain experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.


Experience

8 years of strategic sourcing, supply chain contracting, or related experience is required.

5 years of leadership experience is required.


Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

Licensed RN or other nursing certification is preferred.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations.

Knowledge of strategic sourcing processes and methodologies.

Builds and manages effective teams.

Knowledge of contract structures, terms, conditions and risk mitigation.

Demonstrated project management skills.


Responsibilities

Utilizes the value analysis process to develop, lead and execute clinical sourcing strategies.

Plans, develops and implements business plans and budgets, including long-range objectives, performance goals and metrics for all clinical categories. Collaborates with Operations, Legal, Finance, Medical Group and other customers as needed to champion cross-functional sourcing initiatives.

Directs, coordinates, and assures clinical spend category and services are purchased at the lowest possible total cost of ownership.

Negotiates, develops and manages prime distributor contract for medical surgical products across the system.  Holds distributor/vendor accountable for meeting the performance metrics on the contracts.

Represents HSHS on appropriate clinical Boards of the Group Purchasing Organization (GPO).

Negotiates best in class pricing for medical surgical products across the organization.

Directly manages complex system-wide negotiations with suppliers that require a detailed strategic plan and have a direct correlation with HSHS operational needs goals.

Plays an active role and/or leads the HSHS System Clinical Committees.

Leads and influences the ability to ensure productivity gains through execution of capital equipment strategic sourcing strategies developed by leading category/sourcing teams, focus on driving increased value, improve quality/delivery, inventory and supplier right-sizing.

Crafts negotiation strategies to close contracts with optimal terms.

Maintains a thorough knowledge of all product and service needs and industry developments related to assigned spend categories.

Establishes and manages category projects, involving key stakeholders and suppliers, through the process of discovery, analysis, negotiation, and finalization of contracts.

Serves as the systems supplier liaison and manage that relationship as well as conduct analysis and reports in areas such as purchase trends, invoice accuracy/auditing, rebate analysis and review, fill rates and customer satisfaction.

Provides guidance to local systems on clinical inventory management to ensure each local system is meeting regulatory requirements specific to required clinical inventory practices.

Provides direct supply & implant utilization reviews based on specific guidelines in areas such as high volume and dollar items, specific supply usage patterns.

Uses and develops of data analytics tools to conduct spend and category data analytics.

Partners and develops relationships with business units to lead and cross functional indirect and/or direct capital equipment sourcing and efforts that capture value for the business; connect supply chain impact to the business to drive peak performance.

Develop and implement supply chain continuous improvement initiatives. Support supply chain maturity.

Leads systemwide initiative and presents to user groups and executive leadership.

Directly manages portfolio of strategic sourcing contracts for medical and surgical sourcing.


Leads a team of colleagues in human resource initiatives including but not limited to; performance management; education and development; selection and retention; workforce planning; coaching and counseling; and supporting activities that promote colleague engagement and satisfaction. 

Leads or supports the financial resource functions including but not limited to; managing expenses; preparing, monitoring and executing within limits of the budget; monitors productivity standards; manages the purchasing process and all decisions related to the finances for the area of responsibility. 

Leads or supports change and process improvement initiatives including but not limited to; strives for standard, efficient and value-added processes; communicates a clear vision; influences and motivates others; and develops strong relationships with key stakeholders.
