Position Summary | The Academic Advisor works with nursing students concerning their academic program plan and progress, and other academic activities and career goals, to assist the student in making decisions concerning personal educational goals leading to graduation. This position supports student success as they progress through their nursing program. | | | |
Education | Bachelor’s degree in education, business, nursing, healthcare, or related field is required. | Associates plus three years of experience in an Academic Advisor role or equivalent will be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree. |
Experience | 1 year of experience in student or patient support in an educational setting or a healthcare setting is required. |

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Flexibility, readiness to adapt, and willingness to learn to support changing requirements or priorities. | Ability to generate reports utilizing the student information system and Excel or other database to support institutional review, planning, and decision-making. | Strong record-keeping skills, with attention to accuracy and detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain program and course requirements clearly and effectively. | Ability to work collaboratively across departments and levels within the institution. | Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities. | Ability to manage individual workflow effectively and seek to improve processes when necessary. | A positive attitude with a strong focus on student satisfaction. |
Responsibilities | Evaluates students’ progress in their respective programs, evaluating degree requirements, counseling, and providing related guidance and direction. | Maintains and updates related databases as needed, to ensure that student records accurately reflect degree progress and academic status. | Educates students regarding college policies and procedures, along with course registration. Interprets and enforces academic policies. | Exercises professional discretion and judgment to troubleshoot issues and problems that may arise. | Documents pertinent and required information related to interactions with students. | Provides guidance to enrolled students on graduation requirements. | Participates on committees and/or teams as needed and/or assigned. | Assists with student development events. | Monitors students' academic performance and provide interventions and support. | Supports orientation onboarding and recruiting events. | Assists with student educational activities. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Abides by all safety requirements including demonstrating proper hand hygiene and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with team members. |
