Position Summary

The Surgical Services Operations Analyst will have accountability for the management and direction of the financial and business activities of surgical services for the market. Responsibilities include billing/revenue generation, financial and statistical analysis, strategic planning, scheduling, and ensuring all financial goals of the department align. Collaborates and coordinates activities with finance, surgical services leadership, medical staff, and other key stakeholders. Manages operations of surgical services supply chain as it correlates to patient billing workflow, value analysis, and cost per case analytics. Responsible for business development, surgical services improvement projects, collect/interpret data, and evaluate various workflows making appropriate recommendations to positively impact operational efficiencies, finances and growth.


Education

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, or related field is required.

 

High School Diploma plus 5 years healthcare experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.

 


Experience

At least 3-5 years of related experience in healthcare or surgical/procedural services operations is required.

Responsibilities

Analyzes materials purchasing and patient billing workflow. Serve as liaison with Supply Chain and service line leaders to ensure all pricing and contractual updates are properly managed in the electronic medical records (EMR) system to support accurate patient billing, maximum revenue generation, and cost per case analytics.

Analyzes accounting systems and procedures, making recommendations to the service line leaders for improvement of internal controls or processes where necessary.

Optimizes operation room efficiency and maximizes capacity by reviewing the block schedules and staffing.

Collaborates with clinical leadership and service line leaders to optimize resource utilization, equipment, and supplies.  Create strategies around reduction in cost and improvement in productivity.

Prepares statistical packages for various committees, workgroups, and administration highlighting key metrics, areas for improvement, and narrative explanations of budget deviations.

Prepares operating pro-formas for proposed new services/projects/capital as required. Understands financial operations and works with all levels of leadership in assigned areas to ensure the accuracy of the analysis. Assists with supply and service procurement, contract analysis, and contract management. Inputs agreements into the contract management system.

Acts as liaison with vendors to obtain pricing, set up trials and procure new equipment as needed in collaboration with service line leaders.

Oversees surgical services department metrics and data analytics (i.e., departmental variance reporting, productivity matrix, etc.).

Presents reports related to business volumes and cost analysis of procedures and service line financial performance.

Assists service line leaders in the preparation/implementation/management of the budget.

Reviews and assists in identifying and resolving patient billing issues in collaboration with Finance and Coders.

Acts as Project Manager facilitating effective implementation of departmental projects as assigned.

Recommends and supports surgical services process improvement initiatives.


Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed.  Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate.

Abides by all safety requirements including demonstrating proper hand hygiene and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. 

Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality.  Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with team members.
