Position Summary | The Supervisor-Athletic Trainers is responsible for the day-to-day clinical operations while addressing clinical issues, advancing clinical practice guideline development, enhancing clinical efficiencies, performance management, and staff development. Performs other professional duties associated with the care of patient, development of therapy program services, and engagement and development of interdisciplinary teams. Responsible for organizing the administrative and clinical aspects of athletic trainer services in the assigned departments/locations. | | | |
Education | Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program which meets the licensure requirements in the state of practice is required. | Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited program which meets the licensure requirements in the state of practice is preferred. |
Experience | 3 years of clinical experience as a Licensed Athletic Trainer is required. | 1 year of progressive leadership experience is required. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Licensed as an Athletic Trainer in the state of practice is required. | Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) is preferred. | Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. |

Responsibilities | Provides leadership and supervision to Athletic Trainer colleagues: orients, schedules, coordinates colleagues within assigned areas; acts as a liaison between departments and other hospital sites; prepares for and leads meetings. | Oversees operations management to meet objectives, enhance efficiencies, maximize access to care, maintain patient safety and experience, and promote quality. | Participates in direct patient care as staffing levels require, by performing the duties of an Athletic Trainer. | Coordinates colleague assignments for pre-season physicals, sports games, matches, and related events. Maintains strong working relationships with external partners to ensure seamless coordination and support. | Assists leadership with organizational functions, including daily operations. May assume responsibilities of the Director/Manager in their absence. | Collaborates to resolve departmental/interdepartmental issues. | Responsible for coordination of orientation/onboarding, training, competency assessment, and initiatives. | Leads department efforts in effective communication and relationship management with internal and external stakeholders to support mission and vision of organization. | Participates in mentorship (e.g., student/peer) to enhance quality and skill which includes acting as a resource for staff. | Participates in special projects for athletic programs and/or community to promote the growth of the sports medicine program and associated functions. | Participates in the writing, reviewing, and updating of the department policies and procedures. | Interprets and complies with regulatory standards and professional practice requirements. |
Leads a team of colleagues in human resource initiatives including but not limited to; performance management; education and development; selection and retention; workforce planning; coaching and counseling; and supporting activities that promote colleague engagement and satisfaction. | Leads or supports the financial resource functions including but not limited to; managing expenses; preparing, monitoring and executing within limits of the budget; monitors productivity standards; manages the purchasing process and all decisions related to the finances for the area of responsibility. | Leads or supports change and process improvement initiatives including but not limited to; strives for standard, efficient and value-added processes; communicates a clear vision; influences and motivates others; and develops strong relationships with key stakeholders. |
