Position Summary | The Program Manager-Professional Nursing Practice provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all aspects of the organization's Magnet or Pathway to Excellence Programs, assuming market-wide responsibility for coordinating the program application, designation, and re-designation processes. Education | Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required. | Master’s degree in Nursing is preferred. |
Experience | 5 years of nursing or related healthcare experience is required. | Leadership or project management experience is preferred. | Experience with hospital operations and clinical care delivery is preferred. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) is required. Wisconsin: RNs may practice with a valid multi-state RN license as outlined in the Nurse Licensure Compact rules. |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Maintains expert knowledge of current Magnet or Pathway to Excellence requirements and ensures organizational awareness and success by serving as a liaison between HSHS stakeholders and the ANCC Program Office. | Competence in preparing and managing the annual Magnet or Pathway to Excellence program operating budget, monitoring expenditures and variances to ensure fiscal accountability. | Strong critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, taking appropriate and timely action to advance nursing excellence and organizational performance. | Strong leadership presence with the ability to coach, mentor, and engage leaders and staff across all levels to foster a culture of continuous readiness and accountability. | Proven ability to plan, organize, and execute large-scale readiness programs and accreditation preparation activities with attention to timelines, deliverables, and outcomes. | Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly translate complex program requirements into operational practices and provide effective training. | Demonstrated success working cross-functionally with clinical, quality, and administrative teams to drive compliance and performance improvement initiatives. | Strong ability to monitor compliance trends, use data-driven insights to improve performance, and proactively identify and mitigate organizational risk. |
Responsibilities | Fosters a multidisciplinary, collaborative approach throughout the ANCC accreditation process. Serves as liaison between hospital leadership and Magnet or Pathway to Excellence stakeholders—nursing and hospital staff, physicians, and the community—to ensure alignment in designation and re-designation efforts. Communicates vision and progress, drives solutions, and engages employees in sustaining a environment of excellence. | In collaboration with nursing leadership and management, the Director develops and executes short- and long-term strategies to address performance gaps and strengthen nursing excellence across the organization. | Develops, implements, and monitors policies, procedures, and compliance practices to sustain a culture of readiness across all departments. | Oversees project implementation to ensure achievement of program objectives while managing resources, timelines, risks, conflicts, and costs. | Plans and directs program activities, establishes a comprehensive evaluation framework to assess program effectiveness, and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement. | Serves as the primary on-site lead during accreditation visits and activities, facilitating coordination with ANCC representatives and ensuring a smooth, organized process. | Monitors, tracks, and reports opportunities for improvement and corrective actions, ensuring timely resolution and sustained compliance performance. | Collaborates with quality, safety, infection prevention, and clinical leaders to ensure accreditation readiness, ensuring ongoing compliance with all accreditation standards. | Develops and delivers education and training programs on accreditation readiness, compliance expectations, and best practices for leaders and staff. | Prepares and manages the annual Magnet and Pathway to Excellence program operating budget, monitoring expenditures and variances to ensure fiscal accountability. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections through compliance with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and facility policies including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. Utilizes standard precautions during patient contact and when handling contaminated materials. Demonstrates compliance with National Patient Safety Goals. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality. Attends required in-services and meetings and completes all mandatory competencies by deadline. Commits to keeping all patient, student or colleague information confidential and maintains excellent interpersonal communication with the health care team colleagues. | Emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care-attending to body, mind, and spirit while upholding ethical principles with patient care and all other aspects of work.
