Position Summary | Under the direction of the Market Director of Laboratory Services, the Laboratory Systems Specialist serves as the primary laboratory resource for the workflow support, maintenance, optimization, and ongoing operationalization of technology systems across designated laboratories. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, test catalog and test library maintenance, policy and procedure development, ad hoc report creation, system upgrade planning and implementation support, middleware database management, user training, system administration, and troubleshooting. This position functions as a key liaison between Laboratory Services, Information Technology, and other hospital departments to coordinate the implementation of technology-related changes impacting clinical and operational workflows. Education | Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related field is required. | An associate degree or equivalent education and five years of experience in a clinical laboratory environment, laboratory information systems, or a related field may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree. |
Experience | Three to five years of experience in a clinical laboratory environment, laboratory information systems, or a related field is required. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is preferred. |

Responsibilities | Oversees daily, weekly, and monthly monitoring (error logs, print jobs, background jobs, equipment interfaces, etc.) and EMR work queues. | Assists in the development, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of laboratory technology solutions to support laboratory operations, workflow efficiency, and organizational objectives. | Provides end-user training, technical consultation, troubleshooting, and problem-resolution support for laboratory technology-related issues. | Drives the communication of changes at a ministry laboratory level regarding technology updates, enhancements, downtime notifications, and workflow changes to laboratory and hospital staff. | Develops, reviews, and maintains laboratory technology-related policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure regulatory compliance and operational consistency. | Through partnership with the laboratory information system IT team, monitors and remains current on software, hardware, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements impacting the laboratory technology environment. | Delivers exceptional customer service by responding promptly to user inquiries and collaborating with stakeholders to address operational needs. | Works collaboratively with peers and laboratory information systems team to standardize and operationalize comprehensive documentation of lab technology configurations, system upgrades, training activities, incidents, corrective actions, and issue resolutions. | Serve as the primary liaison between Laboratory Services, Information Technology, vendors, and other departments to serve as the hands on resource for system integrations, implementations, and ongoing support. | Participate in system testing, validation, and change management activities to ensure the reliability and integrity of applications. | Support continuous process improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance system functionality, workflow efficiency, and user experience. |
Possess the information, skill, and understanding of the work to be performed. Actively participates in continuing education opportunities and maintains certifications, licensure as appropriate. | Abides by all safety requirements including demonstrating proper hand hygiene and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), if applicable. | Complies with all standards, policies and procedures including dress code, attendance and punctuality.
