Position Summary | The System Director of Perioperative and Procedural Services provides leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for perioperative and procedural services across HSHS, encompassing operating rooms, surgical support, and areas such as gastrointestinal, interventional, and cardiovascular labs. This role drives quality, safety, access, throughput, and financial performance while collaborating with hospital leaders, physician leadership, and system executives to standardize practices and optimize procedural workflows. | | | |
Education | Masters degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing or related Allied Health field is required. | Bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing or related Allied Health field with at least 5 years of leadership experience may be considered in lieu of a masters degree. |
Experience | 7 years of demonstrated leadership experience is required. | 5 years of leadership experience in perioperative services and procedural environments is required. | Experience in procedural throughput, access management, and surgical services performance improvement is required. | Experience with procedural services, including cath lab and/or invasive cardiovascular services is preferred. | Multi-site or system-level leadership experience is preferred. |
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations | Licensed in the state of practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) is preferred. |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Deep understanding of perioperative operations and surgical services workflows. | Knowledge of procedural services, including cardiovascular procedural areas (cath/EP labs). | Demonstrates ability to manage throughput optimization, surgical services performance improvement, and access management. | Demonstrates strong analytical skills to interpret procedural and operational performance data. | Ability to lead system-wide standardization and change in a matrixed environment. |
Responsibilities | Leads system initiatives to optimize perioperative throughput, surgical case scheduling, and procedural flow across all procedural environments such as cath and other invasive labs. | Serves as a strategic partner to hospital and market perioperative leaders, providing performance oversight, standardization, and operational guidance while maintaining accountability for day-to-day operations and results. | Collaborates with surgical, anesthesia, and procedural physician leadership to align clinical standards, operational priorities, and care delivery models across perioperative and procedural services. | Directs system governance structures for perioperative and procedural services, ensuring standardization of workflows, policies, and performance management across all sites. | Develops system strategy for surgical and procedural services growth by addressing case mix optimization, capacity planning, and service distribution to enhance access, utilization, and market competitiveness. | Partners with system and local leadership to prioritize capital investments, surgical and procedural technology, and digital solutions that improve efficiency, access, and outcomes across perioperative and procedural services. | Collaborates with nursing and clinical leadership to advance perioperative workforce strategies, focusing on staffing models, competency development, leadership capability, and engagement. |
Leads a team of colleagues in human resource initiatives including but not limited to; performance management; education and development; selection and retention; workforce planning; coaching and counseling; and supporting activities that promote colleague engagement and satisfaction. | Leads or supports the financial resource functions including but not limited to; managing expenses; preparing, monitoring and executing within limits of the budget; monitors productivity standards; manages the purchasing process and all decisions related to the finances for the area of responsibility. | Leads or supports change and process improvement initiatives including but not limited to; strives for standard, efficient and value-added processes; communicates a clear vision; influences and motivates others; and develops strong relationships with key stakeholders. |
